What am I doing here?

#30DaySongChallenge Day 25: A song that makes me laugh

I see that a lot of folks have chosen song parodies, and while I think that Weird Al Yankovic is a genius, I decided to go with a song that made me laugh today.

So there I was, just innocently walking through my grocery store picking up a few needed items, when this song came on. Instant recognition, and I was giggling madly. This song was on the first record that was mine personally. I was 10 years old at most, (ETA: just looked it up, I was 7) and probably haven’t heard it since, which is why it made me laugh so hard. I’m still giggling…

Easy Come, Easy Go - Bobby Sherman

30 Day Song Challenge Day 24: A song that I want to play at my funeral

This has honestly never crossed my mind, and I have no idea. Not much I could do about it at that point anyway.

At the last funeral I attended, the minister did a lovely rendition of the departed’s favorite song: Somewhere Over The Rainbow. It was beautiful.

OK, moving on now…

#30DaySongChallenge Day 23: A song you want wanted to be played at your wedding

When I saw this category on the list, I knew exactly what I was going to choose.

I got married in 1995, and was (and still am) a huge Melissa Etheridge fan. When making arrangements with the DJ we hired for the wedding, I was far from a bridezilla, had one song I didn’t want played (the “Chicken Dance”) and but one special request for my favorite song at the time. “Do you have this CD? Melissa Etheridge? Her first album?” “Of course we do, no problem”

So, do I get the song? Nope. DJ played another Melissa Etheridge song,  but not the one I specifically requested.

One, just one song. I’m the bride for Pete’s sake. It’s my favorite song.

Still peeved, just a tad? Why yes, yes I am. Heck, it’s only been fifteen years.

LOL

Like The Way I Do - Melissa Etheridge

#30DaySongChallenge Day 22: A song I listen to when working out

Double “huh?” on this one:

1) My list had “A song you listen to when you’re happy”

2) Working out? What’s that?

When I was exercising more regularly than I do now, I found this a good song to walk to:

Chrome Plated Heart - Melissa Etheridge

#30DaySongChallenge Day 21: A song I listen to when driving

Huh? My challenge list had “A song you listen to when you’re happy”, but since everyone seems to be doing this category, guess I’ll switch, too.

Really, what don’t I listen to when driving. I always have on the radio or my mp3 player, usually on random shuffle, and singing along to everything. So I thought back to when my kids were little, when Disney movie soundtracks kept us entertained on many a drive, especially the 10-hour trek to Virginia Beach every summer. So my pick is:

Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid

#30DaySongChallenge Day 20: A song you listen to when you’re angry

I had a lot of candidates for this…songs that are good for venting. My first thoughts were a number of tracks from Darkness on the Edge of Town. There’s nothing quite like the primal scream therapy that is “Adam Raised a Cain” or “Streets of Fire”. But I’ve had several Springsteen selections in this challenge, and I don’t think I’ve picked any Axium music yet. My favorite of the Axium catalog is definitely Blindsided. I pick “Feed Your Ego” as a great angry, “F*** you” song.

#30DaySongChallenge Day 19: A song from my favorite album

My first Springsteen album was The River and it remains my sentimental favorite of many well-loved albums. I still remember hearing one of co-workers at Friendly’s, where I worked after school, singing ”Cadillac Ranch”  - and a new Bruce fan was born. I love almost every track on this album. But the song that still gives me goosebumps when I hear that harmonica intro is the title track…

#30DaySongChallenge Day 18: A song I wish I heard on the radio

I have no idea if this song would have been a hit, but it is the type of song I would like to be a hit. Why it ended up as just a bonus song, I have no clue. One of my favorites on the album:

Breathe Tonight - David Cook

Catching up…

#30DaySongChallenge Day 17: A song that I hear often on the radio

I don’t listen to radio for very long stretches - in my car I tend to listen to my mp3 player. I do listen to SiriusXM The Pulse frequently at home over satellite TV and this song is pretty popular. I have heard it fairly often on WPLJ also, and one of my coworkers streams some internet rock radio station on her computer that seems to have picked this song up recently

Maybe - Sick Puppies

#30DaySongChallenge Day 16: A song that you used to love but now hate

On the other hand, some of these categories are so easy.

While I never actually loved this song, I did kinda like it for a little while. Until the insane overexposure made me loathe hearing it. It’s everywhere and I can’t seem to escape it….I won’t even attach a video, I’m sure you won’t need it.

Hey Soul Sister - Train

Runner up: This may be sacrilege for a Springsteen fan to say, but if I never hear Dancing In The Dark again, it would not make me sad. Sorry, fellow Bruce fans.
